  1. Lisa,
I really like how you chose this topic about silent reading. After reading the article, I understand the pros about silent reading. I, for one, really enjoy when my students read silently. I have a little breather and the students do too. This is a time when they can go into their own worlds when they read quietly. When they get back to the classroom after enrichment, I give them about 15-20 minutes to read silently. They usually read their AR books and take tests during that time. When it is time for us to pack up and get ready to leave, they struggle because they do not want to put their books away. They do eventually but I love to hear and see that they do not want to turn away from their books. It puts a smile on my face! Back on topic, I think that we do need to have an allotted time for students to read independently. KAllsup

  2. It's great to know that they love to read! I think it's important that we give them that quiet time to dive into a book. I think it works better if we have that time cut-out in our schedules. It seems like when we have a set time to start a task or subject, then we're likely to maintain that routine.
